This time, they throw in the towel. The Indonesian government gets ready to leave its tries to stop the geyser of mud which devastates is from the island of Popular dance it. For two years, more than hundred thousand cubic metres of a burning and foul mud pass every day. On Friday, the vice-president Jusuf Kalla informed that the government has no more hope of making stop torrent and decided to leave its efforts, before coming back on its statements. But the representative asked his fellow citizens to ask so that he stops, notably contacting the Muslims of his country in this period of Ramadan.

In May, 2006, in Sidoarjo, a geyser of mud forms. A while before, the oil Lapindo business company drove an exploratory boring to try to find a pocket of gas. In some days, villages are destroyed and several persons are killed. According to the news agency Reuters, fifty thousand persons are displaced. Since, in spite of efforts to stop the well with colossal concrete bowls, the geyser does not weaken. According to some experts, he could pass so about twenty years before pressure weakens. Last June, a study published in the newspaper of the American geological Society concluded that the boring of Lapindo which pierced a reservoir of hot water and caused the training of the geyser. A scenario which refutes the firm, linked to the family of the Indonesian minister of social affairs, considered to be the man the richest in the country.

Lapindo maintains that the geyser was caused by a seismic jolt. But the seism in question seems to have occurred too much far, and with a too weak intensity, to explain disaster. One week ago, villagers sent a delegation in the Indonesian capital, to ask the government to move their village, manhandled by slidings of fields and of emanations of toxic gases caused by the geyser. More than ten square kilometres are covered with a thick layer of mud today, which returns the not cultivable and region unfit for habitation for a long time.
