Article VIII (free translation):
“1. Every government signatory will have to carry immediately to knowledge of the Committee any permission of this type which he will have granted. Every government signatory can any time cancel any special licence of this type which he granted.
2. Every whale captured as part of these special licences will owe as far as possible, be exploited and products so got will have to be treated in accordance with government issue directives signatory who granted the licence.
3. If at all possible, every government signatory will have to transmit in organism that the Committee will be able to indicate with this effect, and in intervals of one year at the farthest, the scientific information which he has concerning whales and whaling hunt, including results of researches driven in accordance with paragraph 1 of this article and from the article IV.
4. Admitting that collection and analysis of biological data got during the operations of ships plants and stations of the Earth are necessary to a beneficial and healthy management of whaling industry, governments signatories will take all measures in their power to get these data.”
This article allows the sale of the meat of the captured whales as makes it Japan to cover expenses of research. The results of research are introduced and seen again yearly by the scientific committee of the CBI.
The activists of Sea Shepherd interfere therefore with a completely lawful activity.
