Let us keep the carbon, for next glacial age!

It is a point of view at least original. A Danish researcher explains that it is necessary to keep reservations of hydrocarbons to struggle against next glacial age.

In Geophysical research letters of February 11th, 2009, Gary Shaffer, the University of Copenhagen, itemises his calculations and envisages that a climatic warming of five degrees in century, such as he is estimated by the models of the UNO, would postpone of 170 000 years the happening of next glacial age. And the researcher explains, that if the humanity wanted to take the trouble to keep its reservations of coal, of oil and of gas, she could be slow a half million years next glacial expiry date.

Before industrial revolution, our climate was only dependent on solar activity, and also on variations of the orbit of the Earth which condition the quantity of solar energy accepted on the planet. When she diminishes, the summer does not any more allow to melt the glacial skull caps and the Arctic floes, and these go down more to the south, recuperating all north of Europe and of Asia and of North America.

For Shaffer, it is therefore urgent to imagine a long-term climatic management. By avoiding burning now its reservations of carbon, the humanity could therefore attenuate ongoing total warming, while keeping cartouches to postpone, by controlling an increase in its rejections of carbon dioxide, the come instant, the appearance of a glacial age which would be no doubt, distasteful to live. It was necessary to think of it!
